Physical Description | Tellurium hexafluoride is a colorless gas with a repulsive odor. It is very toxic by inhalation and skin absorption. When heated to high temperatures, it may emit toxic fluoride and tellurium fumes. It is heavier than air. Under prolonged exposure to fire or intense heat the containers may violently rupture and rocket. It reacts with water to yield toxic vapors.

Populations at Special Risk
TELLURIUM HEXAFLUORIDE CAUSES RESPIRATORY IRRITATION. IN PERSONS WITH IMPAIRED PULMONARY FUNCTION, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH OBSTRUCTIVE AIRWAY DISEASES, THE BREATHING OF TELLURIUM HEXAFLUORIDE MIGHT CAUSE EXACERBATION OF SYMPTOMS DUE TO ITS IRRITANT PROPERTIES.
Antidote and Emergency Treatment
Advanced treatment: Consider orotracheal or nasotracheal intubation for airway control in the patient who is unconscious, has severe pulmonary edema, or is in respiratory arrest. Positive pressure ventilation techniques with a bag valve mask device may be beneficial. Monitor cardiac rhythm and treat arrhythmias as necessary ... .
