Toxicity
ToxicityInteractions
DEXTRANASE INHIBITED FORMATION OF DENTAL PLAQUE & CARRIES IN RATS GIVEN A CARIOGENIC DIET AND INOCULATED WITH STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS. THIS EFFECT WAS INCR BY ADDN OF MONOFLUOROPHOSPHATE TO THE WATER.
Adverse Effects
Toxic Pneumonitis - Inflammation of the lungs induced by inhalation of metal fumes or toxic gases and vapors.
Human Toxicity Excerpts
SEE FLUORIDES. INORG FLUORIDES ARE GENERALLY HIGHLY IRRITANT AND TOXIC. ACUTE EFFECTS RESULTING FROM EXPOSURE TO FLUORINE COMPOUNDS ARE DUE TO HYDROGEN FLUORIDE. /FLUORIDES/
Non-Human Toxicity Excerpts
Ingested monofluorophosphate (MFP) is hydrolyzed by phosphatases mainly in the lumen and wall of the small intestine. monofluorophosphate hydrolysis is insignificant in the saliva and the stomach and absorption is greatest in the small intestine, mainly or entirely as fluoride ions. Liver tissue also rapidly hydrolyzes monofluorophosphate, and monofluorophosphate ions have not been found parenterally. The post-absorption physiology of monofluorophosphate therefore appears to be identical with that of sodium fluoride. However, the absorption peaks of fluoride in blood and other body fluids and tissues occur earlier and are higher after sodium fluoride ingestion, unless fluoride is bound by calcium ions in the digestive tract. Calcium ions have a comparatively small effect on fluoride abs...
Antidote and Emergency Treatment
Monitor plasma fluoride level because monofluorophosphoric acid may increase plasma fluoride levels and decrease plasma calcium.
