Laboratory suppression of deoxyuridine is used to diagnose megaloblastic anemias due to vitamin B12 and folate deficiencies. Deoxyuridine (dU) is used to indirectly determine if there are sufficient levels of folate and cobalamin in cell or tissue samples.
