This dye can be used to identify apoptotic cells. Oxazole yellow can penetrate into early apoptotic cells and stain early apoptotic cells, while propidium iodide (PI, p4034), a dead cell stain, remains impermeable to early apoptotic cells, but can stain late apoptotic cells. The combination of these two dyes can distinguish early apoptotic cells from late apoptotic cells.
