The compound is produced by the same species of Aspergillus and Penicillium that are associated with food spoilage. When CH aspergillus B was administered to rats, two fluorescent metabolites were found in the urine, namely, 4-hydroxyl Ra aspergillus B and trexoxin B. Tratoxin B has been shown to induce facial abnormalities in Xenopus laevis. The compound showed no genotoxic activity in human cells. Ch trotoxin B has been shown to reduce the toxic effects caused by CH trotoxin A.
